Since my retirement, I've had more time to explore my quest for art and the many forms of craft. Whether ceramics, basket weaving, oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media or collages, I've tried my hand at them all.
About Siraj
When I was a little girl, I would pass by a florist on the way to, and from, school. I was fascinated with how the florist strung flowers together without any needles to make a garland. One day, the kind-hearted, old florist gave me a straw and some flowers and asked me to try it. I was able to duplicate it and made a small garland I was immensely proud of.
I went home and made a garland with flowers in my garden, using whatever string I could find. This was the beginning of the many artworks I would try out throughout my life. We don’t realize how a small deed like that can make a lasting impact in a person’s life.
Since my retirement, I’ve had more time to explore my quest for art and the many forms of craft. Whether ceramics, basket weaving, oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media or collages, I’ve tried my hand at them all. I’ve had ten solo, and many group, art exhibits in Madison, Wisconsin and in Macomb, Illinois. I am a member of the Madison Watercolor Society, Dane County Plein Air Association of Madison (WI), and Macomb (IL) Plein Air.
Though decades have passed since I did that first garland, and the old florist is long gone, I have never forgotten the kindness the old florist showed me. I will always carry that kindness, and emulate that gesture whenever I can.
Warm Regards,
Siraj Hull
